Welcome to Colombia and the 7th Latin-American Colposcopy and Pathology of the LGT Congress

Dear colleagues:

On behalf of the Latin-American Federation for Colposcopy and Pathology of the LGT (Federacion Latinoamericana de Colposcopia y Patologia del TGI - FLPLGTC), the Colombian Association of Colposcopy and Pathology of the LGT (Asociacion Colombiana de Colposcopia y Patologia del TGI) the organising committee, we welcome you to this congress which will bring together most doctors actively working on this topic.

The dominant role played not just by gynaecologists against cervical cancer but also by an illustrious group of scientists in both the area of health and those investigating the pathology of cervical cancer is well-known, as is its prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Governmental public health entities, insurance entities, the academic world, the pharmaceutical industry, patients’ associations all too play their part.

Important advances in the basic sciences, molecular biology and cellular immunology applied in clinical sciences (such as screening and vaccination) represent an important basis for progress being made against this disease. Multidisciplinary work will be the most effective weapon for reducing the morbimortality of this scourge which affects females in Latin-America and around the world.

With the support of all of you, we hope to have a congress which will exceed our greatest expectations, having the best lecturers from the region together with the highest worldwide authorities on the subject.

We hope that this extraordinary city (a world heritage site) will enfold you with its Caribbean magic and provide you with an unforgettable experience not just due to the event’s scientific quality but because of the wonder of Cartagena and its people. This congress must be a meeting-point for Latin-America where old colleagues, young researchers, the public and above all friends get together for continuing working against our common enemy (cervical cancer) and diseases associated (or not) with human papillomavirus in the lower genital tract.
